Installation > Accessory Retrofit Kit (Amana)

Question:
How do I install the accessory retrofit kit for Amana units?

Answer:
Accessory Retrofit Kit (For Amana Sleeve with Architectural Grille)

INTRODUCTION
These instructions provide procedures for fitting a packaged terminal air conditioner or heat pump into a metal wall sleeve manufactured by Amana. Accessory Retrofit Kit, part no. AM-RETROFIT-KIT, provides the items needed to accomplish sleeve retrofit. Kit contains the following items:

ITEM QUANTITY
Foam Baffles 2
Bracket 1
Screws 4
Side Angles 2
Foam Seal 1
Gaskets 4
IMPORTANT: Inspect the Amana metal sleeve thoroughly prior to installation. Manufacturer does not assume responsibility for costs or damages due to defects in the sleeve, or improper installation of the accessory kit.

INSTALLATION OF CHASSIS INTO SLEEVE

WARNING
Chassis weighs between 118 and 138 16. For personal protection, seek help when lifting the unit. Lift unit by holding unit basepan.

1. Place foam baffles (included in retrofit kit) on condenser (outdoor) coil tube sheets. See Fig. 1. Make sure coil tube sheets are clean before applying foam baffles. Place one baffle on each coil tube sheet. This step must be performed in order to prevent air recirculation. Place baffles on tube sheets even if seals are in place on outdoor grille.

IMPORTANT: Improper installation of foam baffles or not installing baffles can result in condenser (outdoor) air re-circulation. This will degrade performance and also shorten product life on major unit components. Do not ignore this step or discard seals. Manufacturer does not assume responsibility for costs or damages resulting from misapplication of foam seals.

2. Install bracket (supplied in kit) inside the metal sleeve as shown in Fig. 2. This is to ensure the unit will be level when it is placed into the metal sleeve.

3. Attach foam seal (supplied in kit) to the bottom front face of the Amana sleeve as shown in Fig. 2.
4. Remove front panel from unit by grasping panel firmly near top of both sides. Pull panel up and then forward. See installation instructions provided with unit for additional information.
5. Remove the existing side angles and replace with the side angles supplied in the kit. Note the slots that will be used to mount the unit to the Amana wall sleeve.
6. Install foam gaskets (included in kit) on the basepan as shown in Fig. 3. You will need to apply two gaskets to each side of the back of the basepan where it is notched. There are 2 notches on back of basepan. Place one foam gasket on each side of each notch with the adhesive backings facing each other. Make sure the gaskets cover the entire opening to prevent any leakage of water from the basepan. The basepan surface must be free from grease and dirt to allow the gaskets to adhere properly.

7. Slide unit chassis fully into wall sleeve to ensure proper fit of foam seals against outdoor grille (Fig. 4).

NOTE: Because of snug fit of chassis into metal sleeve, slide right-hand (heavier) side of chassis into sleeve first; then slide top plate of chassis (Fig. 1) under edge of sleeve front face flange; and then slide in left-hand side of unit.
8. Secure chassis to sleeve with 4 screws provided in kit (Fig. 4). When the chassis is secure, replace the front panel by reversing the instructions in Step 4. Refer to the air conditioner or heat pump installation instructions for further installation information.
