Installation > Accessory Retrofit Kit for GE

Question:
How do I install the accessory retrofit kit for GE units?

Answer:
Accessory Retrofit Kit (For General Electric Sleeve)

INTRODUCTION
These instructions provide procedures for fitting a packaged terminal air conditioner or heat pump into a plastic or metal wall sleeve manufactured by General Electric Company (GE). Accessory Retrofit Kit, part no. GE-RETROFIT- provides the items needed to accomplish sleeve retrofit. Kit contains the following items:

QUANTITY ITEM
2 Foam Baffles
1 Bracket*
4 Screws
*Used for metal sleeve only.

INSTALLATION OF CHASSIS INTO SLEEVE
Step 1 - For Metal Sleeve Only

IMPORTANT: Perform this step for installation of chassis into metal sleeve only. This step is not necessary for installation into plastic sleeve.

1. Remove metal clip on mounting rail located on left, inside, bottom of metal sleeve and discard. See Fig. 1.
2. Place metal bracket provided in Accessory Retrofit Kit on top of mounting rail. Place bracket so that top flange of bracket rests on top of mounting rail. Then slide tab, located on front of bracket, into the slot from which metal clip was removed. Tap bracket lightly into place until it is secure. See Fig. 1.

3. Continue installation procedure at Step 3.

Step 2 - For Plastic Sleeve Only

IMPORTANT: Perform this step for installation of chassis into plastic sleeve only. This step is not necessary for installation into metal sleeve.

Remove bottom seal from plastic sleeve. See Fig. 2.

Step 3 - Both Metal and Plastic Sleeves

1. Place foam baffles (included in Retrofit Kit) on condenser (outdoor) coil tube sheets. Place one baffle on each coil tube sheet. See Fig. 3. This step must be performed in order to prevent air re-circulation. Place baffles on tube sheets even if seals are in place on outdoor grille.

IMPORTANT: Improper installation of foam baffles or not installing baffles can result in condenser (outdoor) air re-circulation. This will degrade performance and also shorten product life of major unit components. Do not ignore this step or discard seals. Manufacturer does not assume responsibility for costs or damages resulting from misapplication of foam seals.

2. Remove front panel from unit by grasping panel firmly near top of both sides. Pull panel up and then forward. See installation instructions for additional information.

WARNING
Chassis weighs between 118 and 138 lbs. For personal protection, seek help when lifting the unit. Lift unit by holding unit basepan.

3. Slide unit chassis fully into wall sleeve to ensure proper fit of foam seals against outdoor grille.

NOTE: Because of snug fit of chassis in metal sleeve, slide right-hand (heavier) side of chassis into sleeve first; then slide top plate of chassis (Fig. 3) under edge of sleeve front face flange; and then slide in left-hand side of unit.

4. Secure chassis to sleeve with 4 screws provided in kit. Use alternate inside mounting holes. See Fig. 4.
