Accessory Aluminum Architectural Grilles
Installation Instructions
These instructions cover the installation of the accessory architectural aluminum louvered grilles to be used with wall sleeve part no. WALL-SLEEVE for packaged terminal air conditioners and heat pumps.
Regular installation of the architectural grille, where grille is mounted directly to the wall sleeve, is covered in the Standard Installation section. Any installation of the architectural grille where grille is not mounted directly to the wall sleeve is covered in the Deep Wall Installation section.
2. Remove rear closure panel by pulling side flaps toward center of sleeve and them firmly pulling rear panel toward front of sleeve.
3. Discard rear closure panel.
1. Follow Steps 1 - 3 in the Before Installation section on this page.
2. Remove 2 lower screws securing mounting arms to grille so that arms are free to rotate. Save screws. See Fig. 2.
3. Swing bottom of arms toward center of grille, grasp firmly and tilt grille to insert through sleeve and out the back of sleeve. Then, pull back until grille is located against back of sleeve with baffles resting on rear bottom flange of sleeve. See Fig. 2.
4. Rotate mounting arms until they snap into notches in ribs on top and bottom of sleeve. Be sure arms are in notches to ensure grille is tight against the sleeve. See Fig. 3.
1. Follow Steps 1 - 3 in the Before Installation section.
2. Wall sleeve and field-fabricated sleeve extension (Fig. 4) must be assembled before installing in wall opening. Fasten the sleeve and sleeve extension together with bolts and nuts (or self-tapping screws), inserted from unit sleeve through sleeve extension. See Fig. 4. Installation of sleeve extension assembly should leave a 3/8-in. projection into room, and an outdoor sleeve projection of 1/4-in. to allow for unit casing clearance to finished wall, plus ample edging to apply weather sealant between unit sleeve/sleeve extension assembly and wall opening.
3. Seal all butting flanges on unit sleeve/sleeve extension assembly. The sleeve extension is water bearing, and must be watertight when installed against unit sleeve.
4. Cut drain slots in front and rear flanges of extension to line up with drain openings in unit sleeve.
5. Install 2 center baffles inside sleeve extension to prevent re-circulation of outdoor air circuit.
6. Paint sleeve extension and seal corner and lap joints. Clear all drain holes of excess sealant, paint, etc., to permit free drainage.
7. Install quality flashing under unit sleeve and extension using quality sealant between flashing and wall.
8. Install unit sleeve/sleeve extension assembly following standard practices. Seal assembly to wall on all 4 sides, indoor and outdoor.
9. Provide a field-supplied condensate drain extension tube for routing excess condensate from the wall sleeve through the sleeve extension to the building exterior. See Fig. 4.
10. Attach grille to the outside of the sleeve extension (using field supplied fasteners).
11. Seal any gaps between grille and sleeve extension on all sides
