Installation > Accessory Lateral Duct Kit
Question:
How do I install the accessory lateral duct kit?
Answer:
Accessory Lateral Duct Kit
Installation Instructions
Part No. LAT-DUCT-PLENUM, EXTENSION-DUCT
INTRODUCTION
The Accessory Lateral Duct Kit consists of 2 separate packages. The Lateral Duct Adapter, part no. LAT-DUCT-PLENUM, contains:

1 |
| Air Baffle |
1 |
| Pivoting Air Baffle |
1 |
| Bracket |
1 |
| 1/2-in. Screws |
10 |
| 5/8-in. Screws |
2 |
| Label (ON/HOLD) |
1 |
| U-Type Clips |
2 |
| Front Panel Mounting Bracket |
1 |
| Air Seals |
2 |
The duct adapter fits directly over the discharge outlet of the packaged terminal air conditioner. The Lateral Duct Extension, part no. EXTENSION-DUCT, attaches to the duct adapter and directs up to 40% discharge air to an adjoining room, either to the right or to the left of the unit. Installation of the lateral duct will decrease unit performance by approximately 8%. Part no. EXTENSION-DUCT includes one duct extension assembly and one aluminum air grille.
IMPORTANT: In the U.S. and Canada on 230/208-v cord-connected units, junction box accessory H/WKIT 230V must be used to comply with requirements of NEC (National Electric Code), UL (Underwriters' Laboratories), and local codes. In international markets, check for code requirements to determine if junction box is needed for code compliance.

INSTALLATION
Step 1 - Locate and Install Wall Sleeve
1. Determine whether duct extension is to extend to the right or left of sleeve.
2. For right-hand extension, subtract wall thickness (dimension X in Fig. 1) from 36 inches. For left-hand extension, subtract wall thickness from 48 inches. Locate edge of wall sleeve the calculated distance from wall. When available distance from sleeve to wall is less than that calculated above, and it is undesirable to have duct project into adjoining room, the extension may be cut at discharge end as required.
FIGURE 1 - WALL SLEEVE, DUCT ADAPTER AND EXTENSION LOCATION (RIGHT-HAND EXTENSION)
3. Install wall sleeve as described in Installation Instructions packaged with sleeve.
NOTE: Sleeve must project into room a minimum of one inch.
4. Mark and drill two 1/8-in. diameter holes in the sleeve side where extension is to be mounted. See Fig. 2.
FIGURE 2 - LOCATION OF HOLES FOR MOUNTING BRACKET
Step 2 - Install Chassis - Install chassis as described in installation instructions packaged with unit.
Step 3 - Mount Lateral Duct Adapter to Unit Chassis
1. Remove front panel from chassis. (Refer to unit installation instructions.)
2. Remove 2 black screws from chassis discharge grille and remove grille from chassis. Discard grille.
3. Slide air baffle between aluminum top bar and partition. See Fig. 3.
FIGURE 3 - SLIDING BAFFLE INTO POSITION
4. Assemble bracket to sleeve using two 1/8-in. screws (included with kit) through rear bracket holes. Bracket flange should face upward and outward. See Fig 2.
5. Remove all tape securing parts to discharge plenum assembly. Pull plenum assembly apart into 2 main components: duct adapter and cover adapter.
6. Position duct adapter over chassis discharge opening. Attach to partition flanges with two 1/2-in. screws provided in kit. See Fig. 4. Before tightening screws, push adapter toward rear, tight against aluminum top bar.
FIGURE 4 - ATTACHING DUCT ADAPTER TO CHASSIS
7. Holding pivoting air baffle upside down, position right-hand baffle pin into duct adapter slot. Position left-hand baffle pin into slot. See Fig. 5. Rotate pivoting air baffle backwards into final assembly position. See Fig. 6.
FIGURE 5 - ASSEMBLING PIVOTING AIR BAFFLE
FIGURE 6 - STARTING POSITION OF AIR BAFFLE
8. Assemble air discharge grille for desired room airflow direction (see Fig. 7). For upward airflow, louvers must point up. For downward airflow, louvers must point down. Air discharge grille can be rotated to give desired airflow direction.
9. Assemble cover adapter to duct adapter by aligning 3 pins on top into holes in top rear of adapter. Fully rotate front down; fasten top to adapter at ends with two 5/8-in. screws provided in kit. See Fig. 7.
FIGURE 7 - DISCHARGE PLENUM ASSEMBLY
10. Remove screw on left-side partition front flange. Attach front panel mounting bracket to partition front flange. Replace screw. See Fig. 8.

Step 4 - Mount Lateral Duct Extension
1. With chassis fastened to wall sleeve, carefully measure and cut 3 3/4-in. x 7 1/8-in. opening through adjacent wall. See Fig. 9. Dimensions from outside wall to duct adapter front (dimension X) and from floor to duct cover adapter (dimension Y) should be used to locate opening.
FIGURE 9 - SIDE VIEW SHOWING MEASUREMENTS FOR EXTENSION OPENING
2. Cut duct extension to proper length, if necessary. Final length of duct may be within 1/2-in. short of wall opening, or flush with the wall. The duct must not protrude into the room to permit flush mount of the aluminum air grille. Once the duct is cut to length, the insulation inside must be trimmed back approximately 1 1/2 inches. Any screws within 1 3/4 in. of the discharge end must be removed.
3. Position collared end of duct extension into duct adapter, and opposite end through wall. Duct extension should rest on front panel mounting bracket.
NOTE: Duct adapter is designed for one extension only, but multiple lengths of the duct extension may be used. Field modification is required to attach two duct extensions together. Drilled holes and screws are to be provided by the installer. Outside duct surfaces are to be kept flush.
4. Fasten duct extension to bracket with two 1/2-in. screws. See Fig. 10.
FIGURE 10 - ATTACHING DUCT EXTENSION TO BRACKET
5. Fasten duct extension to plenum assembly with two 1/2-in. screws into adapter top. See Fig. 11.
FIGURE 11 - ADJUSTING AIR BAFFLE
6. Assemble 2 U-type fastener clips (included in kit) to end cap. Position end cap into opposite end of duct adapter and fasten together with two 1/2-in. screws.
7. Peel backing off 2 air seals and position seals on back of end cap and duct extension. See Fig. 12.

8. In adjacent room, center the aluminum air grille in the duct end, and push into the duct until the flange is tight to the wall. The clips on the register hold it in place.
9. Register can be adjusted to direct air up or down and left or right.
Step 5 - Adjust Air Baffle for Desired Air Split Between 2 Rooms
NOTE: There are 4 air baffle positions.
1. Insert screwdriver between the louvers on the left side of the air discharge grille, as shown in Fig. 11. Slowly push inward against the air baffle until it slips past the next stop. Stop pushing when the desired air baffle position is reached. If air baffle is pushed past the last stop, it falls back to the starting position.
2. In the down position, air baffle directs the largest proportion of air into adjoining room. As air baffle is pushed inward, less air is directed into the adjoining room and more into the primary room. See Fig. 6 and 11.
Step 6 - For 230/208-V EM Units Only - Locate cutout switch on side of control box. See Fig. 13. Place ON-HOLD sticker over ON-OFF sticker to comply with NEC, UL, and local codes.
